A portable mouse to match your Surface Go

The latest in Microsoft's Arc series of mice features the neat trick of being able to snap into a curved form to fit your hand when in use, and snap back to flat — it's just 14 mm at the thickest point — to slide into a pocket or sleeve. Considering the Surface Go is made for life on the move, this mouse is a perfect companion.

A wireless mouse that matches the build quality and portability of your Surface Go.

It turns off when snapped flat and immediately turns on when curved, helping conserve battery and hitting up to six months of life from the two AAAs inside. There's no need for dongles thanks to a Bluetooth connection, and you get about 30 meters of range.

There are no discernible buttons on the front, but rather a sort of touchpad look that allows for horizontal and vertical scroll and well as right- and left-click buttons. To match your Surface Go and its Type Cover, there are four color to choose from.

Alternatives to the Surface Arc Mouse

The Surface Arc Mouse might be the best option if you want good all-around function and portability, but there are a number of alternatives if you want something cheaper or something better suited to a specific scenario.

Runner-up

Surface Precision Mouse

One of the best desktop mice out there.

Perhaps the perfect mouse when not on the move, the Surface Precision Mouse has an ergonomic design and premium build.

Microsoft's Surface Precision Mouse has a durable machined aluminum build with molded grips on the side, it has a rechargeable battery inside that lasts up to three months, and it weighs just 135 grams. It has an ergonomic shape to comfortably fit your hand, it has plenty of buttons, and it connects wirelessly with Bluetooth. If you're using multiple PCs at your desk, know that it can connect to your Surface Go and two other PCs at once for quick switching.

Also Great

Logitech MX Master 2S

Another outstanding mouse for the desktop.

It costs about the same as the Surface Precision Mouse, and indeed has many of the same features, but its shape is slightly different and it comes in different colors.

Mouse

Logitech's MX Master 2S is another mouse that hits the top of many charts, thanks to comfy ergonomic design, plenty of features, and two-month life from the rechargeable battery. Flow software lets you connect and switch between multiple PCs at once, and the scroll wheels and buttons can be extensively customized. There's also the option for a 2.4 GHz dongle connection if you'd rather eschew Bluetooth.

Best Trackball

Logitech MX Ergo

Sore wrist? This mouse can help.

Using a mouse all day doesn't have to mean forearm and wrist pain. It takes a day or two to get used to, but you might not want to switch back once accustomed.

The Surface Go, despite its size, makes a great companion in a workstation, and you might find yourself using a mouse for hours on end. If other classic ergonomic mice aren't alleviating wrist and forearm pain, it might be time to turn to a trackball. This is arguably the best option on the market, with smooth tracking (you can click a button for a low-DPI precision), sturdy base, and grippy exterior. Customize buttons and wheel with Logitech software, and connect up to two PCs at once with Bluetooth or 2.4 GHz dongle.

Best Wired

Microsoft Classic IntelliMouse

Wired mice aren't dead yet.

Surface Arc Mouse

It's somewhat rare to see a wired mouse outside of the gaming scene, but Microsoft's Classic IntelliMouse makes a strong argument for keeping the tail.

Believe it or not, there are plenty of people out there who still prefer a wired mouse even when they're not gaming — no worry about battery, dongles, or Bluetooth signals — and Microsoft's reissued IntelliMouse checks all the boxes. It sticks with the classic ergonomic design, it tracks well, and there are a ton of configuration options for the wheel and buttons.

Best Budget

VicTsing MM057

A low-cost wireless alternative.

If spending more than $10 on a mouse for your Surface Go seems foolish, check out the VicTsing MM057.

It might only cost a tenner, but this mouse is quite impressive. It connects with a 2.4 GHz dongle, it has five stock DPI settings and can be customized, and it's built to comfortably fit your hand. A 4.5-star rating on Amazon with more than 15,000 review should quiet any concerns about quality.

Best Gaming

Razer Atheris

Ambidextrous design and wireless connection.

Believe it or not, the Surface Go can tackle gaming, and the Razer Atheris can help.

Razer's Atheris is an ambidextrous wireless mouse that's lightweight, precise with up to 7,200 DPI, and comfortable thanks to ergonomic design. It's small enough to carry with you on the go, it connects with Bluetooth or 2.4 GHz dongle, and the batteries last for months. As far as Razer and gaming products go, the price isn't bad either.

Bottom line

Microsoft Surface Mouse Mac Compatible Software

There are plenty of great mice out there, and if you're looking for something for a specific use, there are many alternatives to the Surface Arc Mouse better suited for desktop, gaming, or ergonomic function.

However, the Surface Arc Mouse is your best all-around bet for a Surface Go companion. It's light, it has a unique design, it's built well, and there are colors to match Go Type Covers.
